Fitting a foot throttle

Hello everyone,

Ok so I already have a foot throttle and the cable.

How easy is it to replace the current and original hand throttle set up?

Looks quite complicated!

Thanks.

What engine do you have? It's pretty straightforward, a case of opening up your gear selector lever and disconnecting the throttle cable (easy to identify as it moves more than the gear shift cable). Disconnect the throttle cable at the engine end, and replace with a cable of appropriate length to your throttle pedal. The reason I ask what engine you have is that some require a 'pull' cable and some a 'push'. The cables will be the same but the pedal will be different.

Thanks for the reply.

It's a Yamaha 90 on a Phantom 16. Does that make a difference to what you said above?

1/ You need to know if this engine requires a push or pull throttle cable therefore you need to have the matching cable. (Push means : your throttle cable phyiscally is pushed back towards the back of the boat.)

2/ You need to know if your foot throttle has a push or pull setup.
Some foot throttles can do both (as my hot foot throttle does) Off course it needs to match your engine setup.

3/ That leaves you with the correct throttle cable connectors/adaptors at the motor and at your foot throttle, which you must order together with your throttle cable.

It's not all that difficult, but it is a bit of a quest if you never did this before
Good luck,
T.
