Has anyone ever snapped there-

cavitation plate on the gearbox i have re rigged my boat with great success and achived 74mph but when i was putting the prop bag on i noticed the cavitation plate has snapped off the rest of the box .

What could have caused this i havent hit anything all i can think is it must have had a small crack before.

Looking at it i might beable to be welded.

I saw an advert on boatsandoutboards.co.uk for a company that does gear case repairs. Have a troll over the site and see if you can find it taz.

Yes but the one I had, was a debris break, prop picked up something and wacked into the cav plate took out a bloody great chunk, LH side (port) weld repair was ok. Funnny thing the prop was un marked just a slight scratch on one blade, even had it checked after pitch & balance was good.

That looks to me like it didn't have all the fasteners in place!

have you been running with ANY of the 6 nuts missing?

Jon on removal i found there to be one bolt missing in the centre. Do you think this has caused it were the bolt is missing the stud has cracked the casing in the leg looks like a difficult job to repair

I had all the bolts come loose on mine once. When I took the boat out of the water there was a gap of about 5mm between the bottom of the leg and the top of the box and it wobbled about like a good one. It was a properly mirror flat day and I had just been running it jacked right up and trimmed right out Didn't hurt it though!!! Lucky I guess!!!

Thats cus it was all freshly painted, leg and box. In my experience things tend to come loose first time out when you've freshly painted em.

Taz what prop was u using to achive 74?
why dont you just get a new second hand gearbox casing insted of the whole thing much cheaper also that 1 blufin posted a link of is only a 15"shaft so you will need to replace the shaft either way

Not 5mm but it probably was quite thick on the bottom edges of the leg.

That was my initial theory too! - Nightmare there is so much junk floating around I hit a half a fishing rod whilst on the donut the other day!

My friend whilst chartering his father’s brand new sunseeker across the channel hit a shipping container at 38 knots! Its was floating about 1 foot under the surface ripped most of the bottom off the sunseeker and had to be rescued by the navy. Now that is scary his dad broke down into tears when he phoned him to tell him what had happened!
