Hi all,

I'd like to try to convert a hot foot PRO into a dual action throttle.
I know Land & Sea and Incontrol make/made those throttles, but as they are (very) pricey a hot foot conversion might be the way to go.

Do you guys have any experience with this ?
Any thoughts ?
Any pics ?

I've added some pictures myself, to get this thread starting.

Thanks!

Hi Burty,

I mean a second cable, so I can use :
- the controller : for slow boating and wakeboarding at a constant speed
- the foot throttle : for fast boating

I don't know what the price is on Land & Sea and Incontrol's foot throttles are, but the one in the middle picture is Sjöberg Racing, the same one I use and I'm very happy with it and the price is about 210 Euro.

210€ seems reasonable
Anyone ever tried to convert a hot foot ?

I hear some people didn't like the firmness of the throttle handle, others have issues with the safety implications (when you let go off the footthrottle, the hand throttle takes over, but at the pre-set position !!).

I'd like to get info from someone who did this and if this is worth trying or not, you see.

Greets and thanks,
T.

incontrol....... all the way.

You get what you pay for and when you want the best, why try to save a few £'s

come on guys... is this really worth that extra money ?
130$ vs 400$ in US

That needs to be really convincing for me to spend 270$ extra on a foot throttle given I'm not a pro racer and only looking for some weekend-boating fun.

I've always had a hot foot in my previous boat a ring 16ft and simply liked it.
Bernico's are standard equipped with a hot foot I believe. They sell like hotcakes here in Belgium, I don't recall anyone saying he didn't like the hot foot. What is so bad about the hot foot's ? I'm guessing here : the spring maybe ?
- They can break, true. but you can apply a second one, and you can always pull the throttle backwards with the tip of your foot.
- They need a variable load on the throttle paddle, true... no solution for that. Is this where the N control scores far better ?

Back to the dual action question : the N Control has a dual action adaptor then ? Any pics of that ? because I didn't find any on the net.

Thanks !

Hi Toffy,

We make our own throttle here, you've probably seen them in the for sale section or on a few of the guys boats on here. I must admit, I find the hot foot very weak, but that's in offshore competition use.

We developed an adaptor to allow both a foot throttle and a hand throttle to be used, both with 33c cables (these can be used with merc adaptors at the other end if required). It's a very simple design.

We haven't made one up yet but I'd be happy to do so if you're wanting one. I'd love to see you use one in conjunction with our throttle, but it would work with any other throttle such as hot foot too if you want dual control.

Cheers, James

Thanks for that info James !

I gathered following info on this forum (should have done this before oops)
your throttle info -> www.boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19015
more dual set up info -> www.boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19437

You've put quite some effort in developping your throttle. I'm sure it works flawless, but I would need to check on the needed depth of 270mm. Not to keen on how it looks with the weight reducing holes, but that's pure subjective opinion, don't take it as criticism please

As you say your adaptor would work on any footthrottle could you make me an offer for that ? Problem will be shippingcosts I fear... I live in Belgium near city of Ghent.

Thanks !

No problem at all!

That is indeed our first version of the throttle. We've made some subtle changes since, mainly to aid manufacturing for larger quantities.
It'd be easy enough to make one without any holes for you if you wanted to go down that road.

Our parts aren't cheap mass produced tat, they're bespoke engineered parts and therefore are slightly more expensive. Our throttle is £175 for example, but we try to keep prices as low as possible and I feel they represent good value for money.
The hand/foot adaptor is a very simple design so shouldn't be expensive to buy, I'll sort a price for you. Shipping shouldn't be a problem at all.

Cheers, James

N control don't do hand throttle optioms at the moment

Have you a link to the Swedish throttle?

Hi James,

I have a Bernico 19 ft with 150 Optimax.

My boat is equiped with a Hot Foot - foot throttle (works super), but my boat still has the Quicksilver shifter in it.

Can you send me a PM with quote for the part alowing use of the foot throttle combined with the rewonnecting of the Quicksilver hand throttle?

Thanx!

S

PM sent James

Hi James,

Could you PM me your price for the adaptor piece ?

Would it work best with a hot foot PRO (top mount throttle cable) or a hot foot (bottom mount) ?

Will it work with push and pull set up ?
Mine is a push setup, throttle cable moves towards the stern.

Thanks !
T.
