If there is a simple answer to the question I´m also interested.

But I suppose it´s as allways; it depends...

I have the still unknown model of Ring 21. Since we are on the subject of lifts I would like to know if there are any guidelines to chose a lift with much or little setback.

Is the stand off bracket still on the 21 C, if not I'd say a big one!
Standard plate on the 21C is about 15"

wild card don't mixup lift and setback. 8" or 10" has got nothing to do with the lift but just the setback. lift hight is probebly the same.

for transporting on your low trailer only lift is importent, athe hydraulic lift you say has 6" lift, this in combination with a 20" motor , there will not be a problem transporting your boat..
