Jetting

If I was to fit one of these :-

http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/RAG010/

Would I have to get the carbs jetted? If so what would I take them out to, and wheres the best place to get it done?
They are the standard carbs on a 150 merc by the way.
Cheers

If your just fitting the stacks you may be able to get away without jetting it but to be safe I would go up one size (0.002").

As you are removing the power head to fit your alien cowl you should take the opertunity to remove the can from the mid section. Fitting stacks and removing the can requires you to jet up 2 sizes (0.004"). Its easy to change the jets you should be able to do it yourself.

There will be a brass hex shaped screw head (1/2" I think) with a groove for a flat head screwdriver on each side of the carb towards the bottom. Unscrew it, fuel will piss out everywhere untill the bowl has drained. Depending on what carbs you have the jet will either be in the end of the assembly that you have just removed or down in the hole that you took it out off. The jets then just unscrew with a flat head screwdriver. As you unscrew them they always seem to get more difficult to turn when they're about half way out then they ease of again, mine did anyway. Dont know why this is, maybe to stop em falling out if the come loose.

Don't be suprised if the jets in 2 and 5 (carbs opposite 1 and 6) are 1 size (0.002") bigger, this is normal. If they are bigger they need to go up in size by the same amount as the others so they remain 1 size bigger.

yup but they are quite expensive like £6 each
speak to DB as they have some second hand ones at quite reasonable prices but you will have to visit him and look for yourself as his eyes are bad and he cant read the sizes very well
