If your going to go to all the trouble of laquering then you may aswel respray the deck anyway. any red auto paint you buy these days will be UV resistant so you will not need to laquer it. Laquer doesnt really stick very well to non metalic paints anyway

Make sure you use a marine 2 pack paint, it resists salt and uv better than car paints.

If your thinkin of painting it red then i wouldnt lacquer it! You've got to prep it to the same standard to paint it with lacquer as you have for red base coat! Might aswell just paint it red! Job done!

Just "ho's"
I've been to a lot of custom car shows and seen a lot of nice paint jobs gone wrong after being "protected" with laquer. Flat paint goes hard when fully dry, metalic when fully dry is not as hard as flat paint and needs to be protected with laquer hence laquer is designed to stick to the type of paint. Laquer itself when wet is a very gooey sticky goo solution which is designed to stick to a unkeyed metalic paint surface.
Best people to ring would be a car body repair shop.

if your painting it red then going over with clear, put down a solid red base coat or add a basecoat converter to solid red-non basecoat to convert it to a basecoat, let flash off, tack off with base coat tack rag the clear, flat and polish.the system is known as clear over solid base.

clears are designed to go over basecoats either metallic/solid base, not over straight gloss coats,it has been done and like mr rob says it will eventually shell off, baes coats either metallic/solid base dries matt to accept clear, which gives the build and gloss to the finish,if not using clear then go on with a solid red 2k gloss finish.ive been in the paint trad 19 yrs and wouldn't reccomend clear over a solid colour gloss coat but at the end of the day its up to you.
