Gav had a similar problem and it was the floats in the carbs not being setup properly. Simple fix if your names Jono.

Dirt

normally means you have some dirt in the float chamber which is not allowing the neadle valve to seat properly.

Strip down the carbs and give them a clean out, remember you are not looking for something that big.

Worth changing the fuel filter at the same time.

a common fault i find is the fuel lines break down and put little bits of rubber on the seats, Give them a good squeeze all over to check for collapsed parts and spray through with carb cleaner onto clean cloth to check for debris.
Then float heights and needle/seat condition.

Make sure the rubber tits are perfect cone shaped just like Madonna's

Needles available from any Merc dealer or aftermarket suppliers

Quick test for float height invert the carb and float should sit virtually horizontal looking from side on parallel with the bowl mating surface.

running an electric fuel pump? what's the pressure? Rubber cones normally last for ages but the plating on the needles can corode and cause them to stick

Standard setup shouldn't give too much pressure, anyone else had it in bits ? As everybody else suggested first check needles are not stuck, set float heights but also check the kidney shaped gaskets are there around the emulsion tube. If they have baffle plates check to see the rivets have not come loose. Don't use a pop rivet to put them back if they are loose.

Depends who's paying I'd have a quick look first before buying a complete overhaul kit at most I've only ever had to change gaskets and the needles never seats.
