mercruiser stalling

mercruiser 350 magnum,approx 4 yrs old,starts and ticks over fine,goes into reverse fine,but stalls when going into forward gear,any ideas. ps its not my one to save confusion,cheers

as said above more than likely to be the microswitch, if a bit if cable adjustment doesnt resolve the problem then it may well be time for a new shift cable.
