I am in need of a pair of turbo's for a mercruiser 7.3L V8 Diesel, as far as I know they are a Schwitzer turbo and the factory number is 3800 698M1 has any one got any idea where I might get them from? Cheers Andy

Barrus haven't got any in stock, but if they did they'd be £3311.44 each, including vat! Could do you a bit of discount if you bought 2.

Might be worth giving mike a call at Lansing Marine

Pretty sure they are Schwitzers on my GM 6.5's. new from Peninsular, they were about $1000 each, but that was 9 years ago.

turbo.s

turbodynamics in poole are the best people i have dealt with for turbo,s
they are very good at sorting out turbo,s or replacments plus advice on the failure. tel01202 487497
turbo,s fail due to poor quality oil,bad service intervals, lack of oil(feed pipe),foreign object injestion (air filter) or excesive boost. if you replace turbo,s and don,t sort these area,s they will fail again.

Poorly serviced by himself of course

Still you'll be pleased to know that when I finally recovered on Sunday from our little session I actually got my head under the engine hatch to change my filters and found the dodgy engine had eaten the whole bloody turbo filter bar a small ring of rubber.

So the question is do you reckon the intercooler needs to come off and pick the bits out or will the shredding action have been enough to spit the whole lot through the valves and back to whence it came except the other side of the turbo?

turbo filter

by turbo filter do ya mean air filter and is it just paper element type if it is you probably be ok as long as it does,nt block your intercooler .if you can get both air pipes of intercooler good jet washing or steam cleaner should do the trick then get the remaning water out of the cooler (ALL OF IT).if the filter is foam or metal things could get a bit messy

Yep paper element all held together with substantial rubber front...........or was

I sussed what had happened. The filter sits in a plastic housing which in turn mounts over a rubber seal which had split and just fell to bits. That in turn had obviously spun round inside the filter at getting on for a grazzilion rpm thereby tearing the filter to pieces. I feel I want give the poor thing an oil change and wipe all it's internals with that stuff my wife used to wipe over the babies bum just to make it feel loved again.

Sods law the intercooler mounts directly to the inlet manifold and will have to come off to clean out.

The upside is I think I may have found why that engine was black smoking
