Mercury 150 advice....

Hi I have a late 80s Mercury 150, couple of questions if anyone can help....

What should the engine volt output be when charging the battery? It is 14v at idle and goes up to 16v under load, is that normal or will it fry the battery??

Also what should the engine rev to when flat out? It is on a Phantom 16 with a 23 pitch prop going up to 5k on the rev counter, should it pull more than that or is that about right? Should it be running on a 21 not a 23??

Lastly the guy before me removed the air box from the carbs, some say this is good some bad, any thoughts??

Cheers

if you have removed the airbox then you need a plate to round off the carbs as it wont benefit you otherwise. make sure you have gone up a jet size though.

revs should be up in the high 5's don't go anymore unless the oil system has been removed and you are premixing at 40:1

don't know about charging circuit but sounds a liitle high to me

Burty,

Thanks for that, jets are standard far as I am aware so guess I had better get an air box.

Thought it was too low on the revs, I will try and find a different prop. It is run on a premix, I have been using 50:1

Cheers
