mercury black max 200hp

Hi all i am looking to rebuild my mercury 200hp black max engine, and was wondering what peoples thoughts are on this. is it worth doing cost wise or would i be better of sourcing a different engine?
it is a late 80's engine, i have replaced the flywheel with a lighter one, the stator is only a year old, the carbs have been rebuilt, one of the switch pannels has also been replaced,
the gearbox case i am looking to replace with a low water pickup case as the gearbox had been blown by the previous owner and had the side of the case welded back together.
if anyone has any advise on this or parts that may be of use to me i would appreciate it.
many thanks
wayne.

It runs rather noisy like the bearings on the crank are worn. I also run the engine higher and the water pickup is close to sucking in air, hence the need for a low water pickup gear case.

Hmm, you should start looking for a crank then. Any signs of rust within the block? Put a small bulb or something and look down the bores and transfer ports and see if you can see rust on anything. If so the crank will be scrap as will many of the bearings and a few of the rods.

Ok i will have a look at the inside later after work. What is the best route to go down if this is the case? Can the crank not be re ground or anything?

No, scrap then to be honest. You would need another v6 crank.
