Mercury "power tune" engine cleaner
Gents
Can anyone tell me if it is adviseable to use the Mercury "Powertune" engine cleaner - I bought a tin but have now been given two different opinions as to whether I should use it or not.
Now I dont want to use it until I spoke to you guys
Cheers

Hi, depends what you want to use it for. Its really good at removing carbon etc but can be harsh on plastics if used as a carb cleaner. Hope this helps
James

Cheers James
Basically was just going to follow the instructions on the can which was to squirt the tuner down the carb barrel while running the engine at fast idle then let it sit for 15mins and finally run at full speed for 5mins.
Would you recommend another method???
I wasnt going to use it as a carb cleaner as I already have a dedicated cleaner for that.
Dave

Jay

If you do use it, make sure you put it into the engine after the mass aiflow sensor (if you have one) cause the plastic don't like it...... yours experienced - did get a few hundred more revs as I was quite coked up, after replacing the aformensioned part!

Cheers Gents,
Think I will nip down my local Halfords then, seems a little less painful option than the Merc tuner
Would say I got it in the US when I was over there so hardly cost me an arm or a leg but understand your reasoning Jay. Buying anything from Mercury in the UK nearly needs a second mortgage
