mystery prop

Sorting through some old stuff the other day and uncovered this prop!
Has anybody got any ideas what it is?
It has the word record stamped on it and the number 19,
18 splines and it is 6" from blade tip to hub centre.

And in good old antiques road show tradition is it worth anything?

In one light it looks bronze and then under another it looks like its heat treated stainless!
Its definitley got some weight to it.

That was my thoughts, but when you catch it in daylight it has a white (ish) shine to it! But im no metallurgist.

If i was too stick my neck out though I would say it was bronze...

If it's proper stainless then a magnet most definately won't stick to it!

Beg to differ there, bronze is at least 88% copper based with additives and totally non ferrous, stainless is 88% steel with cobalt additives and magnets will stick,i have been making stainless steel trims for my gas fires since 1982,we use four little magnets to hold trim in place,if my suppliers have been selling me dodgy stainless sheets for all these years think better get pash involved

But you don't make them out of austenitic stainless steel such as 316 which is largely non magnetic and the proper stainless for marine purposes.

Get some 316 in,just for you.Amazing what a little bit of chromium will do,spent 20 minutes reading up on stainless this morning,i always thought s/s was s/s,apparently there is several different types, dependent on the additive, learn something new everytime i come on here.

'tis why you can't just walk in a wholesalers and pick up loads of screws, bolts etc and not expect them to degrade once fitted to a boat.

Most standard stainless fasteners sold are 304 grade which are crap for seawater conditions whilst you can get most of the standard ones in 316 with a higher nickel content to give better corrosion resistance.
