No water pressure
Hi guys and girls,
I'm running an xr2 on my cat, just put on a transom pickup to feed into the water pump... I've got plenty of water coming out of the tell tales, but no water pressure showing...
It did overheat the other day as the feed pipe from the water pump perished and died but i shut off before it was too bad, fitted a new inpeller and pump housing, all seemed fine...
Any idea what i could check or what it could be?
Thanks
James

Take the pressure pipe off the engine and blow up the pipe, see if the guage moves i would have thought you could blow a couple of psi if not connect to a hand pump or foot pump and test again

ooh, thats a good plan... As far as i'm aware the gauge should work as it did before the overheat... It seems strange to imagine that with normal water flow i haven't even got 1 psi of pressure though...
I'll give that a try and see what happens.
Any idea from anyone else what else it could be if not this?
Thanks, James

it could be the pipe thats blocked from the powerhead to the gauge, or bits of your impeller have gone into the powerhead and blocked some of the waterways

i'm confident there's no bits blocking the waterways, the impeller didn't break up and i flushed it all through backwards to make sure there were no blockages when i put on the new waterpump.
The gauge is electric, so i'm assuming has a sender somewhere on the block... Not a clue where this is though!
Thanks for all the help so far Burty

are you sure its electric?? I've never seen an electric water pressure gauge they normally have a small black pipe running from the top of the exhaust divider plate or from one of the heads up to the back of the pressure gauge.

You can get an electric one you replace the block take off with a sender unit.
.
check your indicator with a LP air source
keep an eye on the divider plate - dont cook it

Ah, If it's a black pipe then it may not be electric, I'm about to make a start on it so i'll find out...
Marshan... I've fitted it just below the water pump, to save using checkvalves etc... Where the plate would be on a later xr2
Gazza... thanks for the link, that's where it is
Blufin... What's a divider plate? I may be being stupid here but you don't know about it till you ask about it!
Thanks for the help everyone

Ha ha, so true! Thankfull not on this thread though So what does the divider plate do then? I was looking at that yesterdy and wondering what that area does!
Turns out the problem was that the little black hose (as burty so rightly suggested) was blocked at the end, thus not letting it read pressure, and the slight overheat was due to my temporary 'test' pickup removing itself!
I've now replaced the pickup with a much better argon weld effort, such as normally used for a bow tank, as this allows me to draw it up when drying her on a beach
Hopefully all sorted now then, just a shame the weather's nice and i'm at work! Thanks so much for all the help everyone, couldn't have done this without you!
