Off set engine?

I've just bought a 200 mariner for the Marshan. Just wondering if anyone out there has any advice on the install. Should i go central off offset it? I'm also going to drop the height of the transom too. Talking of transom height, has anyone got a jack plate for sale, the condition is not too important.

Thanks

Cheers for that, the only reason I asked was because there is evidence on the transom of a set of holes that are offset.

I'd go centre as well, and then move weight around the boat if needed, but I would't fit a jackplate.

why are you dropping the transom?

Had a Marshan many years ago, Chris Lewis originally fitted an old style xr2 engine it was offset by about 1 1/4'' found it did not like engine set high on transom it chinewalked to much but with engine set around standard it ran straight as an arrow and pulled a 26'' chopper to about 6300rpm it did however have a transom notch which I recon made a lot of difference as I ran the boat a few times against ones without and it was a fair bit quicker it also seemed to sit on the flatter sides of the notch at high speeds, it could have done with a bow tank for rough conditions though as it was a bit light at the front end and in following seas you had to keep the trim up as a tendency to stuff was always a possibility, battery etc were opposite to offset

I thought about cutting the transom because with the old engine (175 mariner, 20") the trim had very little effect and also it was terrible out of the hole. If you accelerated hard the prop would often slip and not stop slipping until the revs had been dropped right down. I was only thinking of 1.5", i can always lift it again. With the 175 standard height she used to do 68mph (gps), would you guys think this about right?

With the 26'' chopper their was considerable prop slip to the degree of about 15-18ish mph, when the prop bit she took off like a missile however if that prop was used for towing mono skiers in order to pull them out the hole you had to weave the boat to get a quicker bite, the prop was also pretty useless in heavy seas where you needed to run at slow slow speeds with bow up to prevent stuffing in the large surf, the prop just started to slip not at all helpful so a 23'' 5 blade was then the prop of choice but obviously top speed suffered somewhat otherwise a great fun boat
