Offset outboard

During my last thread reguesting 'trim tab info' I stated that my outboard was slightly offset to starboard. One of the replies I received stated that this was NOT the way to go. Can anyone tell me why.

Thought the idea of the offset engines was to help counter the torque put out by the bigger engines/props.

Is this correct or has the thinking behind this changed now-adays?

I believe the engine and hull are part of the original combination/setup as the were little stickers on both units from some outfit down in Chorley. So the offset has been there since day one.

Just interested as to whether I should look at having the engine remounted on the centre line. One of the winter jobs is to have the engine off to repair the manual jacking plate so I could consider doining then.

Mines in the middle, if you put all the heavy stuuf on the starboard side then its the same as offsetting the engine

Run it see what the boat does , Flat calm running LH down or twisting left when Airborne. Dont knee jerk a reaction.
As before depends on use & how hard you push.

If you build a pushbike, do you offset the rear wheel to counter the torque from the pedals?
Just a thought mate.

Thanks for the input gents, taking in to account what you have said I think I'll leave the engine where she is - I have enough other jobs to do on her without making myself more work

We used to have the Speed Ski championships up at Loch Earn (my local water) many years ago but these have since moved on, so we dont see so many race prepared rigs up my neck of the woods any more. Certainly now they have the speed restrictions on parts of Loch Lomond the chances are seeing them are getting less.
