Oil pump removal

Finally got around to ordering the "plug" to replace the oil pump on my Merc XR2. I started working on it today and after removal of the pump I was expecting to find a brass sheave and steel gear, but what i found instead was a nylon "plate" for want of a better word.

The oil pump obviously engages in a slot on the plate and it revolves when you turn the flywheel. I tried removing it but its next to impossible.

From the info I have read it would appear as though there is a steel shaft driven from the crank shaft to the pump but its not what i am seeing at the moment. I dont want to damage it any further but any help would be gratefully accepted.

There is a little forward play in it but it certainly does not want to just "slide" out on its own accord.

How do I get it out??

Cheers
Dave

oil pump removal

the part is called bushing worm is probably stick inside the housing, mainly due to the fact Orings are too old and not soft enough.
Check the 2 added informations, and after this use a plier for external rentaining rings with tips at the good size to come into the slot of the bushing worm, then pull out the bushing. Usually this operation works.
