Old P20.

"Hi All"

A freind of mine has just bought an old p20,year not known?.

The boat itself is general fine with just the normal stress cracks and so on that you get with these boats, the thing is though, the gel coat is so thin that you can se the weeve of the fiberglass underneath it. So apart from him having to stump up the cash to have the whole thing recoated, that I have no Idea what would cost anyway, could anyone please give some advise on the matter?

Many thanks.

Yeh. It's by design. Gel does nothing except seal the glass and look pretty. It adds no structural integrity, and therefore on a raceboat you want as little as possible of it - hence why phantoms only have a very thin gelcoat. If your boat has been blocked and polished a lot of times (likely), it's now at the stage where the gel is see through.

Cheers Matt, you'v just about rapped that one up for me,though the boat could rearly do with a new lick of paint and was also wondering if you could use say a 2 pack high build primer, fiberglass bassed of course, and then with the top coat followed with a clear.

Dude you can see the weave of the fibre glass through most unpainted phantoms just depends on the colour
