Petrol Question!

Stupid Question I know But....
In My Mariner 2.5 V6 is it best to use standard petrol or splash out on the super duper unleaded petrol?

Your thoughts?

With XR2's and 2.5 280hp Offshore's we used to get the good stuff for racing, but for a non race engine and for leisure use I would say it would be a waste of money - at best we may have got a tiny increase in performance and they all run fine on standard pump fuel unless the compression ratios have been messed with.

petrol

cookees answer is not a proper explanation. The higher the octane the cooler it burns which on high performance engines is a must as it will prevent detonation

I have added a bit for clarification (and for Rhino's benefit!) - I was agreeing with Wayne, but with a bit of explanation.

With XR2's and 2.5 280hp Offshore's we used to get the good stuff for racing, but for a non race engine and for leisure use I would say it would be a waste of money because those motors are not of a high enough compression ratio to cause detonation, and yours certainly isn't! - at best we may have got a tiny increase in performance and they all run fine on standard pump fuel unless the compression ratios have been messed with.
