Phantom 16 with yamaha 140 v4????

Hi everyone I'm new after searching the net a few times for various things you guys seem to know what your speaking about so here goes!
Iv picked up a phantom 16 my first speedboat! Alway liked there shape!
I got offered a cheap 140hp v4 yamaha Witch Iv bought because it was to good a deal to pass! I realise it might not be the perfect set up for speed and performance but for the money Iv paid I'm not worried!
My worry is its abit on the heavy side! And worried for the transom etc

Hi Pete, from personal experience I would recommend some transom strengthening, just something as simple as two triangle peices cut from ply to tie the transom down to the stringers, the p16 has quite high sides and is a very stable boat so with regards it being a problem I really can't see any major issues... Just make sure the transom will take the weight!

I ran a 135 v6 mariner on mine and it was awesome. You may just have to have as high as possibleon the transom as it will try and turn the boat with the torque of the motor on such a little boat.

Once it's high enough get the correct prop so it revs to peak power.

The just enjoy the ride..

Thanks for the replys I'm glad It never started with don't bother or its a stupid idea!
K9 my p16 may possible have been done I could be wrong! Because behind the rear seat there is ply spliting that area into 3 sections right back to the transom
If that makes sense I havnt studied it to see if it looks modified.
It had old 75hp merc 4cyl on it most or all its life I gave the pervious owner a hand removing it and It sertainly wasn't lite! But unsure the weight differance
Red dragon was your transom strengthened for that lump?
Cheers pete

Hi, wouldnt worry to much about the transom. I had a eninrude 175 v6 on the back of mine and it didnt care. Spread the load over a larger area of the transom with a few plates on the lower and a plate across both top bolts for piece of mind.
