Phantom 20/21 engine out of center mounting.

A good friend of mine collected his Phantom 21' boat in Sweden the other day
(ex "Total Fury" left UK) and I noticed engine mounting holes out of center approx half a inch to starboard. When I got my Phantom 20' a couple of years ago from the UK I noticed engine holes one inch out of center, however I plugged them and mounted in center.
Both boats are with 4 inch set back, engines 150 hps and we are running
center prop axel one inch below on CLE gearcases. Since the Phantoms need bow lift we are running rakers/chopper which creates some wheel torque/twist. Should I remove my engine back to the off-center position or should my mate move his into center ? What does make sense on the Phantom's, (if there is any general answer to this) I know from old days that some engines were mounted off center as I assume engines at that time was deeper in the water having no low water intake/torque master.

Right handed single engines were usually mounted off centre to compensate for the torque, opposite to the rotation, makes it a little bit easier on your steering.

Your old boat was raced in Sweden a couple of races in the monohull 150 hp class, I beleive they did well, top speed approx 64 knots with E-tec 150 HO, my mate tryed to get hold of the boat when it was for sale in UK but were too late, so now the boat is finally on his hands and he will keep it. Since my daughters is racing my 20' (their) we two old farts wil race the 21' !!.
The girls are struggling with the steering on the 20' when passing 60 knots, thats why I probably reconed the out of senter position could be a solution including a new steering.

What steering are you using?

Hello Cookie
Single cylinder Hi-Nautic hydraulic steering, the one that also require air pressure, I suspect this has been sitting in the boat for a long time, may be since new, I have changed the oil (ATF dextron2) and bleeded regularly, when rattling the engine whilst on land seems ok but still it can not be compared with the force going 60 plus. Could be wrong oil ? Steering wheel is very light.

May be I the have to invest in a douyble cylinder system (one push-one pull).
Hoped for a short cut-by a off center mount solution in the meantime if that will help. Some says yes, some other no.

Ps have tryed to go thru old archives from Tvedestrand but has not yet found
any pic's of you when you were cruisin ot to "møkkalasset" lighthouse !

Sorry I'm not familiar with that steering, I assume it isn't balanced like the Seastar system and giving too much feedback from the engine torque?
