Position for water pick-up

I have just bought one of Dan's pick-ups and I'm currently preparing to rig the ballast tank over the winter.

Just want to confirm the position for mounting the actual pick-up on the transom. I assume it should be mounted as close to the keel of the hull as possible to keep it in the main water flow.

I have one of the older ring hulls with the concave section on the lower section of the hull (rather than the completely flat sectioned transoms of the later models) so I again assume that the pick-up should be offset from this for the same reason.

Any comments would be appreciated as I would rather get it right first time rather than drilling more holes in the hull that I have to

Whats important too is ,when you mount a pick up ,make sure when you pull the unit in ,there,s no dragging through the water ,not even the slightest spray .
It slows you down, and keep filling the tank ,and disturb the water flow to your lower unit/prop when mounted in front of the propellor stream.
The lower you place the pick up ,the more change to pick up water ,because you stick deeper
