if your new pump doesnt have solonoids then reasonably simple to reverse a 12v or 24v motor, using mometary on---off----mometary on available here
http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/Carlingswitches.html
hope this helps

probobly should have mentioned
A DPDT switch can be wired up as a reversing switch for a motor as shown in the diagram.
ON-OFF-ON
DPDT Centre Off
It has a third switching position in the centre which is off. This can be very useful for motor control because you have forward, off and reverse positions. Momentary (ON)-OFF-(ON) versions are also available where the switch returns to the central off position when released
this is what i used for my flip up bolster seat pumps ...works a treat ...saves having to wire relays.
good luck
Ian

You'll need a bit more than luck if you go that route, a Carling switch wouldn't handle the load without relays or solenoids!

No problem, I like a good fire!!!!
I've been using carling switches on my boats since I started in 95, and they really are excellent.

DAC wire up the standard mercury lift pump for the F1 12" leg in exactly that manner, as it only runs for a few seconds at a time it is ok, I wouldn't recommend it for trimming a standard leg though, if you tilt the engine it would probably catch fire as Tony says.
