Prop choice for Phantom 21

Ok guys and gals its time to play with some props.

Ive had 78mph using my 4 bladed bravo1 24p @ 6200rpm

Ive borrowed Red5s worked raker 24.5 (the one that Cookee achieved his British record on) and found that it made my boat porpoises horrendously unfortunately.

Im running a Merc 250xs (6300rpm max) and am wondering whether the overall feel of the standard Tempest Plus 27p or 26p will give me a more relaxed chilled drive and more speed throughout various offshore sea conditions.

If things work out with regards to changing from a 4 blader Ill put it up for sale if anybody is interested.

Thankyou in advance

Try a Trophy.
I've seen +85 with a Trophy Plus 28".

The Tempest is great for speed but the handling and feel is a bit tricky..

You must have a dodgy one or something - although my boat is different to a 21 I have two Tempests that handle very well indeed!

got a 28p chopper which worked well on a phantom, trophy is a very good prop, works a treat on the argo, have seen speeds of 67mph......... once! generally speaking it runs between 60 and 65 mph, thats with a 140 tohatsu.

Is the motor on the transom or on a lifter?

Just read through the previous posts.

Thankyou for the responses.

After the last weekend the weather and sea was amazingly calm, which made for some serious prop testing (non racer style) and I ended up still loving the Bravo1 4 blader prop for all round comfort, acceleration, and relatively safe top speed in all conditions.

The prop that DB had leant me seemed to cavitate a lot for me on initial getting up on the plane. Once on the plane it felt as though we were flying but only reached 69mph.

I need to let people know that this boat has been built with carpet, and back panel so is not a stripped out raceboat so I certainly wont be reaching serious top end speed.

Old Beardy, the engine is on the back of the transom, running a 20" leg and 2" off of the top of the transom.

If you could get hold of a Tempest I think it would be worth a try. I have a trophy 26" that might work well, where are you based?

Old Beardy, I am based near Plymouth.

Pash1, I forgot to write in the previous posts that Im running the fat shaft version.

I must admit to being quite surprised at the boat handling between the different style and pitches etc of props.

All good though

Cheers for everybodys options

I just meant that a 4 bladed prop was easier to steer with than a 3 bladed

Temp Insane - I have a 27" Tempest you can try/buy.. Just sitting on the shelf - like new condition...
