Question for all Phantom 28 drivers
What engine/propeller set-up are you running?
Reason I'm asking is I have finished build my 32' and I've just ordered new 300hp etecs for it
As standard they come with silly small 22'' pitch props wich I believe will be much to small. I need to order something bigger, propably from mercury bravo 1 prop range and I was thinking what pitch I should start play with ?
I know those boats are not the same but quite similar
So what engine do you have? Gear ratio? What props? What engine height? Speeds? etc.

I think the etec is on a 1.87 so I think you would be around 26 bravo props

Its 1.85
I was thinking about 26 to 28

Right I running 1.87 on 2.5 smiling jacks on 23 mirage props. Just got some 2.5 280s. On 2.1 boxes hoping to run 25-26 pitch

Nice... and what speed did you get out of it ?
Propably close to 65-70 with 23's?

It ran 71mph but engines were far too deep by 3 inches so it would be around 75+ smiling jacks need to rev high

P28 2x200 XS
Hello Mike,
my friend run the following on the P28 fitted by a pair of 200 XS GEN1
Engines= 200XS gen 1
gear ratio= 1.87
lenght=20 inches
engines installed on hydraulic lift
we have tested the boat with hydromotive QIV pitch around 29, but too much pitch and the holeshot was very poor too.
Then we tested a pair of std bravo one 26, with a very good acceleration and a top speed with 150liter of gasoline , 3 persons on board at 115km/h sometimes a bit more so 117km/h.
On a revenger 27S light weight/250HO hydraulic lift, with a XS bravo one we have had a top speed at 62/63 knots, then ordered a new O/B bblades from Bblades propeller and incresed the top speed by 3 knots to 66knots, so it will be a good idea to ask to bblades it the O/B (based on a bravo one ) suit your set up, as the O/B propeller is like a labbed bravo with a14.75inches diam intead of 15.25 diam. http://bblades.com/shop/bblades/bravo-obf/
the picture is the O/B prop from BBlades, may be interesting for your set up too, if the diameter is good enough.
For a 32 feet, I think you need more diam so a pair of labbed Bravo one will be the solution, heavier boat,but a lot of torque on the Etec's.Pitch probablly somewhere around 26, engines on a bracket I guess (like stainless machine) . http://www.stainlessmarine.com/?page_id=14
Be careful for the boat balance on the trail with the set back of engines /bracketand COG...
This P28 is made from aramat and pretty light, weighed at 1800kg with engines no fuel, but ready to go.

Thanks for all the info. I was thinking about 26 or somewhere in this area.
Need 4 blade props for better bow lift for sure
When it comes to balance I will have quite big brackets - 15inch
The reason is my transom is designed for inboard engine so I need big bracket to fit the engines with wiring, steering etc.
I will add trim tabs in the future for sure but propably I will not have them in first year
I plan to weight my boat tomorrow but I hope it will weight around 1300 kg so I hope with engines, ready to go, no fuel should be around 2200 kg, maybe less. We will see

They have a really good price now as the are selling off old engines :-)
G2 are about 15 000 EUR more expensive for the pair than old E-TECs

Just weighted the boat, hull + fuel tank + floor + cabin construction etc. 1600kg
Bit more than I expected but still not bad for 32 ft boat
So with engines, brackets, interior, and rigging should be 2400-2500kg
Almost fit UIM Marathon Class C with e-tecs

Yeah they're strong and come with low water pickups as standard. I'd definitely replace the standard mounts with either solid aluminium or a set of Powertech's solid rubber ones, the standard mounts don't last long when used hard

Yeah I know... I need to buy soild aluminum ones.
Did that with my Yamaha
Any other thinks I should know about E-Tec?
Any problems?
They claim that you don't have to break-in them
Do you have any experience with that?

A guy called Jenksam on Scream and Fly makes awesome billet mounts. The break in thing is true, it will add extra oil automatically over 2500rpm for a set amount of hours, but there's no need to do anything yourself. Make sure the oil setting is TC-W3, and use the XD100. That'll give you the best protection for hard use
