is that a pro helm though???? the standard helm will work as it doesn't need a balanced system.

It should work. Try it !! Let us know how you get on !!
I used a standard Seastar helm on single Mayfair with no problem, it was a vast improvement to the Cappilano.

i know you do Bob, the reason im asking is because i have a 2.4cu in pro helm and a 2cu in standard helm, I really want to run the pro as it shifts more fluid but i'm not sure it will work so i really want to know before i go trying it then having to remove it all again when it doesnt work.

Hi Burty,
Using two opposing cylinders makes a balanced system so either helm unit will work fine, the 2.4 unit will obviously give less turns lock to lock but more effort will be required to steer the boat.

Hi Burty,
A very easy way to bleed the helm unit is to make up a header tank that screws onto the helm unit instead of the filler plug around 1litre capacity. Approximately half fill the header tank with oil and allow it to stand for a few minutes so that the helm unit is totally full of oil with no air pockets, Loosen all four pipes to the cylinders and move engines to full lock one way, retighten the two pipes furthest away from the pistons, rotate the steering wheel slowly until no air bubbles are present in the pipes nearest to the pistons topping up reservoir as necessary, then tighten pipes. Then loosen the other two pipes and turn steering wheel in opposite direction this will now steer the engines hydraulically until they reach their stops, then with the pipes still loose rotate the steering wheel opposite again until no air bubbles comes from the pipes then retighten pipes.Using this method will make sure you don't trap air in the cylinders. It is also beneficial to run the pipes as straight as possible with preferably no loops.
Regards
Peter
