Sea Star Steering HELP !

trying to get the one of the wings of the unit (one at each end) trying to get it off at the end with the black nurled nut on. Taken off the two nuts, leaving the bolt that goes through the steering tube exposed and one end of the slider. Next stage is supposed to be "tapping it through" . . . this is not happening. Not sure if I should really whack it or what? The engine is suspended by the "ring bolt" screwed into the flywheel. Any ideas fellas??

Hi the end steering arms should slide off with the nut removed,if stuck just be carefull if hitting the end of the nut/stud as quite easy to damage the thread,a puller would be better,Cheers Nic

Yeah I had this a few weeks ago, bullhorn seized onto stainless shaft. I eventually got it off with WD40, a blowtorch and a mallet.
Grease the hell out of everything when you reassemble it, SS and Ali dont go well together!

Update

Got the steering tube out, complete with stainless bar. Couldnt get them apart last night. The plan is to try to part them today, if not get a new steering tube and stainless bar, grease well, large washers/shims and put back together. The movement is coming from the large nuts inside the saddle its self. They have worn around the inside of the saddle, Thanks Simon and Mike for their help last night. We will be using Dans Hot Shot at Weston tomorrow
