Service on a merc 496 (600hp)?

After how many hours do you need service on these engines, it´s on a 40 plus powerboat. What kind of service do you need...only filters and oil?

Possibly the 375 Hp engine and not the 600Hp engine? - Cause the 496 made by mercury is a 375 Hp engine.......

The service depends on the hours run, and time served. At various run hours and time installed, various things need doing to the engine.

They also make a 455hp (425 at the prop) version of the 496 (the HO).

But I suspect the motors in question are the Mercury racing 600SCI's, which are actually 502ci, (8.2L), not the 496ci (8.1L) block. That 502 is the basis for quite a few of their High Perf motors over the last 18 years, inc the HP465, HP500, HP525, 600sc & 700sc.

Can't help on the service intervals though I'm affaid.

It´s my friends boat (lightning 42) so mercury racing sounds right. Boat/engine from 2006.

And the question...how often and what do you need in service?
