Smart Craft Gauge defect

Please see photo. LCD display on tacho is breaking down. What does anyone think? Is this a defect in the tacho gauge? my other thought is that it could be a cable defect?

Can I swap the cable from the speedo and tacho to check? if so, what am I likely to see? the oppositie data i.e. the RPM data / trim postiion in the LCD display of the speedo? would the plugs fit? will i blow any fuses or break anything trying this or will it display nothing and thus prove nothing?

If its the gauge, where's the best place to buy replacement? can i still get the black bezels? so only have to buy one gauge? price?

If it's the cable how easy is it to replace? assume it plugs into the engine and will have to be removed through the service / comm tube from engine to boat? A kinife would make that easy but I can iimagine if a new cable is needed then getting the plug to thread through will be interesting?
