Sportmaster

Hello from Finland!

I have a problem with 2007 Mercury 250XS with a Sportmaster drive.

There was water in the oil. I disassembled the drive and changed all the seals. After otherwise succesfull assembly i encountered unexpected problem. When everything is assembled, i cant get it in all the gears. I get only forward and neutral. Or if i change shifter rod to different position, i get neutral and reverse but not forward. Linkage adjustment does not help.
If shifting linkage is disconnected i get all F N D positions.

Does anybody have similar experiences?
Maybe i have made some mistakes during assembly?

i know it’s an old thread , but i had this simulair problem with assembling a 3.2 litre sportmaster , after replacing all the bearings and propshaft , i put the shift crank to the wrong side , it should be ( seen from the back ) to the left side , when it’s to the right , you only be able to shift to neutral and one gear because the splines won’t line up correctly , after puting it in the wright way it all worked fine , hope this helps
