Sticking throttle

Hi all,

Just launched the boat today, engine running great. Went out of the marina got onto the plane the last 20% of throttle on the remote was really stiff had to push it down hard to get full power. When I throttled back the remote was not stiff but the engine remained high revving even though the remote was in neutral. Finally managed to switch the engine off engage reverse and get the revs back to normal. Boat was fine again until wanted to go flat out when the throttle again stuck on high revs even in neutral. Any pointers please?

Yamham 100HP four stroke with remote throttle lever, the engine revs up fine when not in gear.

Check that the engine end of the throttle cable is not bent or has corrosion on it or that water has not got into the control box over the winter could be corroded at the top end,

You could also check that throttle arm on the engine is well lubed up,

In the winter i disconnet cables and run oil down them with a tiny funnel taped to the top of them,

Problem now storted after worrying about stretched throttle cables and replacing ultraflex cables. It turns out that a bit of grease and WD40 fixed the problem. I disassembled the control box and regreased it.

I did however notice that upon returning the control to neutral (from flat out) there is a delay in the carbs throttle bodies returning their idle position almost like a soft close action on a kitchen draw for want of a better discription. Is this normal?

A bit of carb cleaner around the butterfly should remove any gunk thats slowing the return.
