strange hole

i have a 200 xr2 with an offshore leg..on the top of the gear case just before it joins the leg i have a small hole the size of a match head that weeps oil..is this some kind of gear case vent and what worries me is iff oil weeps out does water weep in???

Shift Shaft Oil Seal, but check for the correct oil level first & give it a run out do not overfill.
Mercury installs only one seal with the lip facing outward to keep water out, this is a purge seal, if unit is slightly over filled it will purge from this seal saving all other seals from blowing out causing major failure. The Sportmaster runs much hotter than a stock unit that is fully submerged which causes lube to expand. If oil is leaking from pick up holes, it is leaking from the seals under the water pump

If the oil is white,yes.Get it over to Liverpool powerboats sharpish.

Ay, he knows his stuff allright,out of any tunnel,head down towards pier head,the building with all the mirrors on the front,opposite the b.m.w. dealer,take a right at those lights heading for bootle,they are on your left about half a mile,usually got a couple of ribs outside.
