Stupid trim question

I have the worst looking engines in the world fitted in my sunseeker and stupidist power trim.

I cant trim one of the legs up or dwn it did go dwn but now dont do nothing.

Its a stupid volvo penta switch and pump with a crappy volvo penta gauge.

The relays apear to click but the pump isnt doing anything there doesnt apear to be an earth on the pump unless it earths through the relays. Is it just a matter of putting an earth on pump and live down one of the feeds?

Cheers any help much appreciated

where dya buy it from Taz?

am I assuming you've bought another pump? or want to ensure that the one you have works properly?

can you remove the pump from the reservoir and check it wants to spin when the switch is pressed, then verify the switch is working etc?

Bought it from aquawaves. When checking doesnt appear to be alive at the pump. Its difficult trying lay over 2 v8s whilst holding a meter rocking from side to side in a marina. Bloody thing can the trim senders knock out the pump sum how?

Have you checked the trim sender gear rack on the helmet (poxy little bit of plastic held on by 1 screw) .....

was the cause of a friends similar problem .. quite common apparently

What drive have you got ? as i have the manual in PDF if you want it for 280/285/290 SP & DP

If it is two square realys, both relays have an earth going to them so when you press down one relay feeds live to the pump while the other is to earth. If you pull both relays off and use a piece of wire with a male spade on each end to go between the black wire and thick green wire on one plug then another wire between the red and thick blue on the other plug the pump should spin up and lift the outdrive. If it doesn't sounds like the pump has siezed up.

Also the gauges on the volvos have a relay in them to stop the trim working, if you have a digital gauge and it is not working this could also be the reason for it.

Basically the wiring at the relays is green wire for the down side (like the colour of grass) and blue wire for the upside (like the sky) putting a positive feed down one and negative down the other should make the pump spin.

Feel free to message me if you need anything more including a pump or relays.

Hi thanks for all your help, Ive found out the pump is ok buy putting a live and earth into the pump, The pump doesnt have an earth its earthed through the dreaded relays.

Now i have found there is no perment supply into the relays when ignition is switched on so i suspect there must be a break in the wire?. I have a switched supply at the relay ie from the trim switch.
Anyone know where the perment supply is feed from?
The other engine has a later pump with the solonoids rather then those stupid relays, so maybe thats the way forward

The drives have duoprops on them which seems to be good for getting on plane but top speed is a mear 44mph at 4400rpm.

I see somewhere that you arent surpose to trim the drives up to much? Ive bin running them on 7.

The engines are 211.

Permenant supply is fed from the main starter motor terminal or the battery isolator depending on how they were wired in.

If the power is not coming from the switch though it could still be the gauge that is faulty as it acts as a trim limit device. Does the trim work when you push in the overide button as well as the up button??

What sort of trim switch is it, is it the rectangle one with three oval buttons?

The boat is fitted with 2 square gauges and a toggle switch to trim and a push button to set to trailer height.. Gauge apperars to work ok but who knows what its doing inside.. Red wire at the relay is dead i tried running live into it, It did work for a second but then stopped..

Thanks for your help i cant belive how stupid this system is.
