surface drives, anyone used them?
Hi
Just wondered the ins and out of surface drives. Currently have trs drives, was thinking they will give better mpg and are quite tough. My main concern is manoeuvrability.
I know there are two types. Ones like arnesons which move let and right hydraulically and the fixed ones with just the rudder.
This is for a pleasure boat, scarab1 30. Just a thought as I’ve got to do it up anyway.
I know bow lift is an issue and wellcraft made a few 30's with surface drives but the hull had to be blueprinted.

Lain,
I have installed an Arneson drive on my 20 foot Donzi.
So far I am quite pleased with the performance.

Did you notice a gain in top end, and did cruising speed prove more economic? How the manouverability?

Sorry Lain, no numbers yet. Unfortunately I have only had it out only once
this year. I will get it back out in September and get some solid numbers.
I bought a Magnum and haven't looked back!

You can use speedmaster style or bravo style propellers.
