I've never commented on speeds but I have watched 18ft Phantoms over several years at Records Week and I have to say that measuring your top speed on GPS isn't the most reliable way of finding the top speed. I would say a good average top speed for an 18 with 200hp is around 76mph. I've got a genuine gps picture of an indicated 202 mph when I know for a fact the fastest it has gone is 143 mph. So bring your boat to records like Rhino and Cookee did and get a certificate, it's a good event to go to and you cannot bullshit a crocker telescope.

I think Rhino's speed was an index of performance and my two records were for the RIB class and the immersed propeller monohull single outboard (not necessarily in that order!)

Derek that was a good XR2 and a lot of prop work and setup - It's a 2.5 / 200 on carbs so won't be very fresh - my bet is mid seventies!
