trim pumps

i am fitting some trim tabs to the rib, its allready got a trim pump for trim/tilt
rather than fit two more pumps i thought i could use some 12v solonoid valves and link the tabs to the trim pump.has anyone tried this before with any success.

The Bennett system does a similar thing with it's pumps. They have just the one pump, and two solenoid valves to choose where the oil goes. You can also buy a kit with a third valve and a ram to open the engine hatch, again, using the one existing pump.

However, it means only one directional operation at a time can take place, fo example, you can't (as sometimes one would want to) use two fingers and have one tab rising, and one falling. If you make the mistake of trying this with a Bennett system, it blows the main fuse (unless you have the ST12 /16 Sport Tab setup, that has a relay block to stop this happening)

Even if you don't intentionaly press one item up & one down, and accidental actuation will cause trouble.

Also, the Bennett system is 'push only', with springs in the rams to help retraction, so only one pipe goes to each ram, and thus only one valve is needed for each hydraulic item. If you're intending to use a Merc, or Volvo style pump, they push & pull (two pipes to each item, double acting rams) so your valve setup will be a little more complex.

Probably easier to follow tradition.
