Twin Phantom - 15# or 20# midsection?

HI!

I am soon mounting twin 2.5 EFI SS engines on my Phatom 25. I plan to mount the engines on a 1 inch bracket. The propshaft will be approx. 1 inch below the bottom (reccommended by Merc Hif Performance).

15 inch midsection will be ideal according to my information. However, some say that mounting the engines low on the transom can cause problems when the boat is stopping up and the water flushing over the engines. Using 20 inch midsections will solve this problem. But, will cause new problem as I have to build a bracket of 3-4 inch setback to get the correct proheight. The extra setback will cause the boat too tail heavy, higher center of gravity, etc.

Does the Merc 2.5 EFI SS handle water flushing over the cowling. I will use original old style square cowlings.

Cheeers and thanks, Toffen

Does not Maxmotor know this?

I saw they had a 25fot racemaster or something with two 15" EFi-Mercs on it..(Got stolen or something I read..)
not that great difference from that and to your Phantom when it comes to the ballance-questons and so on is it?
I wouldn`t know since I have no experience with rigging two engines..
As for the cowlings, I think they will let the water in, mine does and it is in a decent shape all togheter, you could se it on the two lower bolts on the exhaust-chest..they were a little corroded.
You should post some pics of it when youre done, because that is going to be a special boat when it`s done. not to mention cool

I think the SS cowling is "bucket style" and not the old
"clam style "
The bucket style should be quite waterproof...
