Volvo 8.1 advice

Looking for some advice:
While I am very familiar with outboards and know what I like in that area, I don't know too much about inboards.
I am eyeing up a boat with twin Volvo 8.1 GXI J motors. They are 2008 motors and have low hours on them.

Are these good, solid, reliable engines or are they 'avoid like the plague' engines?

Anybody got experience of them? Common problems? etc?

Any advice gratefully received.

SS Thunderhawk 43
I've also got the option of another one with twin Diesel VP D6 310s for similar money. I'm leaning towards the diesels for obvious reasons. Just keeping an open mind.

do you know when it was re-engined, boat must be about 1990 or earlier, do not know the cost of petrol / derv in spain, the d6 would use about half the 8.1 and suit the boat better. should be quite quick for a thunderhawk, if motors are sound 50k. plus. hope things work out well, keep us informed. pete L.

Thanks Pete.
Yes it's a 1990 in good order. Re-engined in 2009.

Will keep you posted
