water in engine....what to do next?
Hi all just when i thought there was not going to be much to do to get my boat on the water this summer, im hit with another problem!!!
Not used the boat for about 7 months, been stuck down a yard, got it home and when to turn it over and see there things were. Turned the key some noises but enging not turning over. checked batt teminals the positive cable was half hanging off to fixed that, cheched cables on back of starter all ok.
It sounded like the starter was trying to do its thing (starter was new last year) but engine not turning i wanted to check engine was not seized or something stupid so thought i would take some of the plugs out, put in gear and try turn prop. took plugs out and water poured out! tasted water was fresh not salt......(will come back to that) tried to turn engine over again and it turned and chucked all the water out.
checked oil thats clear and nice....
so where has water come from? i did put new manifolds and risers on with new gaskets...do i do something wrong, gasket broken and leaked when/ if i last flushed engine? was quite a lot of water prob 1 ltr? has the head gasket gone? or has some ass poured water in through the carb? (carb very dirty and bit milky, had the plastic cover off the top and fire muff was lose)
so got to work out how it got in there? also what do i do next? have taken the carb off and giving it a clean/ soak in meths also squirted half a can of WD40 in throught the plug holes and down in the engine from under the carb.
should i put the plugs back in and pour diesel down to soak or if it was not seized will it be ok.
Advice would be great but in laymans turms please.
oh p.s engine is mercruiser 4.3
thanks guys.
