What is it?
On my engine I have a large brass fitting where the red circle is on this diagram. It has a pipe which runs from it down to where I think is the poppet valve at the bottom (circled in blue)
What does this do? Can it be removed if its not really needed?

On my XR2 the pipe out of the blue circled bit goes straight out to the cowling and the brass fitting at the top is blanked!

its to do with cooling.
you will have poppet valves and thermostats and stuff in your fishing motor. the race motors do away with all this cus it creates restrictions when on it!

This will be the Red Divider BrassTee Bypass to the Poppet Valve Blue Circle Assembly. and best left in place (Water Pressure Relief Valve, really) You can remove it & bypass if you want well on the old V6's you could dunno about this modern stuff.

it vents any air from the block . i,ve got a mod you can make to a one peice plate to enable you to keep the poppet valve and stats in and have about 3-4 psi water pressure at idle instead of nothing also helps prevent cold seizing when the heat drops out the block suddenly

the adaptor plate has a bit welded under where the poppet goes with a dump out the side so vary pressure

Why would the heat drop out the bolck suddenly? I allways thought cold seizing was caused by letting the motor warm up to quickly, i.e ragging it when its cold.
