what's the best way to trailer your engine ?
Hi !
How do you guys trailer your engine ?
- Do you put a piece of wood above the trimpump rods ? I lost mine a few times already and I want to avoid that....
- Or do you install a "transom saver" ? What do you think of the www.lock-n-haul.com . Won't this fall off also ?
If you want, please share a picture of your engine in ready-to-trailer position.
Thanks !
T.

I'm probably being daft, but connecting the leg to the trailer has always bothered me because any movement of the boat on the trailer will be forced through the leg, if that makes sense.
When you think about what huge forces are acting on a transom from the engine in use I don't think there is much you can do to it whilst towing that will damage it.
I use a block of wood I made up, with carpet to protect the engine paint and a strap to catch it if it falls out, which it's never done.
Nasher.

Great info and pics Nasher !
Think you are right about the connection between trailer and motorshaft... seems not the best idea. A connection between transom and motorshaft seems better. I think that's exactly what that lock-and-haul system does.
I also agree on the forces : they are alot higher when the boat is in the water. However during trailering you could have far more dynamic movement up and down, let's say in the vertical steering column or mounts. I think that makes sense and could lead to wear. When you make a connection between transom and motorshaft this is as good as can be........
Another thought is to keep the tilt/trimcilinders without load while you are trailering. Think that could avoid leakage at the pistonseals.
Does all this make sense ?
If you got pictures, please share.
I probably make my own wooden lock-and-haul system.
Thanks, T.

How many hours of boating with extreme forces to the engine versus the little time on the trailer behind the car...
And when would you have wear, on the water or behind you car?
Put a piece of wood between it if it makes you feel good...
