mmmm, he has the control box but cye is doing me and lobbers a shifter, and fitting foot throttles, i can get a merc Loom easily enough but is there a yam one made and on the market? If there is he can flog the control box to pay towards loom........ the other option is to just strip the control box and use the bits off that....
Guidance needed!

Lobbers:
All I did was to keep the original control box & wiring loom, you still need to select gears.
Disconnect the original throttle cable from inside the control box & fit a new longer throttle cable to the foot throttle.
Dont forget that the Yams require 'push' to accelarate as opposed to the mercs which require 'pull' therfeore the new cable has to be looped up around the front of the foot throttle. Most foot throttles will work in either direction with slight mods.
While you are doing this mod it may be worth wiring out the limit switch inside the control box to enable you to start in gear. Helps to prolong gearbox life.

You save one gear selection every time you start. Don't worry about the extra load on the starter motor. They're only a few hundred quid to replace. .
I would have thought that having no in gear start protection, even on a boat with foot throttle is downright dangerous.

Virtually every race boat is set up like that - swinging big stainless props it really shortens the life of a gearbox which has enough trouble already with racing!
Of course if you have different people driving it who are not aware of this would be a problem!
