Yamaha serialnumber info ?

Hi all,

Need info on Yamaha serial 61HL300746
It should be a 2stroke V6 250hp 90's engine. (cowl was replaced by 200hp version)
Does anyone know a website to verify this ?

Thanks!
T.

Have you checked inside, quite often the model number is stamped on a core plug/freeze plug somewhere. Think it might only be mandatory on US sold motors.
Alternatively, my list of numbers shows a 61H as a ProV200, 1991 on. It's been wrong before, though, said mine was a 40hp when in fact it's a 50hp!

Thanks Pat
I only received the serial number from the person that sells the engine, so I don't have the model number at this moment. I've put this post up, to be fully prepared when I go and see this engine shortly.

The cowl is indeed from a ProV200, but the owner says it's not the original cowl and the engine puts out 250hp, as it was tested by the local Yamaha dealer.

To make it even more confusing : I was told the midsection can't possibly be from a 250hp.

Any thoughts ?
Kind regards, T.

I'd get as many part numbers as you can from it, not CDI units and the like as they are often shared between models, and see if you can track the part number to a particular model. Or contact Yamaha tech support - they were very helpful in working out that mine was actually a 50hp on a 40hp transom clamp!

This page - http://forums.screamandfly.com/forum...d.php?t=176649 seems to say that the PRO V 200 actually put out around 225, maybe why the yamaha dealer thought it was a 250 when he tested it, if it is just a 200?

My mum works at our yamaha dealership, so I just got her to run the number. Nothing came up unfortunately but that's only uk records. Have you tried a main yamaha dealer in your area?

You will learn more from the model number normally on a sticker above the serial no. on the saddle but if the leg has been changed who knows.

I would walk away - more engines to be had that have a proven history.

My local Yamaha dealer did a search with following result :

Yamaha V6 2stroke carb engine 200hp 1990
modelnr = 200CETO

Not really happy with that result though...

EDIT : and I can't seem to match the modelnr with the modelnr guide...

what's wrong here

I think that guide is for American engines - even the CD I have with model numbers by year doesn't have a lot of engines on it. Maybe there were different engines for different markets, depending on demand, emissions requirements etc? I know my 50hp was only available with oil injection over there, whereas mine is a premix only type.

All that tells you is that it's a C model with Electric start, electric trim, and autolube - again it makes no mention of a 250CETO. I would be suspicious. Did he say why it had a new cowl? Maybe he wanted the engine to look better...

Hi ,ime no expert but i dont think u could fit a 250 under a 200 cowl , it looks exactly as a pro 200 indid, if ur dealer checks the serial number @ the top carb which is engraved on edge off carb just on the back , just by removing cowl and looking on the top off the carb u will see a few numbers engraved (TAPPED) ur dealer then can check on pc in his yami data disc and that will give him HP ,

Thx !

make the engine look better ? Could be => He told me that previous owner lost the cowl during a boatride... Must 've been rough then. Think it's possible, during waterskiraces some teams Ducktape their cowls to prevent them coming off..
