A Complete Novice and a Ring 21

Hi there from a complete novice and newbie, when it comes to boats. I am after some guidance / information please with regard to a possible purchase of a Ring 21.

As I have stated, I know absolutely nothing about boats, but thought that I would get involved to see what the fuss is all about, and it’s looks like good fun.

There is a Ring 21 for sale locally to me – I am going to take a look at it next week, along with a mate who has a mate who knows a bit about boats, hopefully.

I suppose that my main 2 questions are:-

1. Is the Ring 21 a suitable boat for a novice to handle / learn on?
2. What questions should I be asking the current owner about the boat. I know very little bit about it at the moment and that is that it has a 1998 year Mercury engine (not sure what capacity). I suppose a lot depends upon the engine condition / age / hours run.

The boat is up for around 4K, which is about my budget, but I can not seem to find many other Ring 21 boats around for sale, on the internet, to be able compare prices.

Any help, guidance, or opinions would be gratefully received and if you are local to Poole, there might be a beer or two in it for you!

TIA.

Andrew.

Hi There - Thanks for the reply. I do not have any further details at the moment, until I go and see the boat next week. There is also no advertisment at the moment as it has only been advertised via a big board outside his house, next to the boat.

I will come back to you with further details and thanks for your assistance.

Andrew

that does seem cheap, the R21 is quite a big boat. i would ask to see the engine running first and see any receipts for a recent rebuild, basiclly treat it like a car and check for service history. check around the well and transom and have a good look in side and underneath for any cracks or damage. dont worry about gel crazng (although being a R21 i doubt very much you will see any!) take some pics and post on here before buying as someone on here may know the history.
Good luck
Paul

Hi and thanks for the reply. I am trying to arrange to go and see the boat tomorrow actually, but no return call yet from the owner!! I will get some pictures and post them up here (if I am allowed to do that, only having just joined up).

Are there any other websites / forums that contain information on the Ring 21?

Thanks Again.
Andrew.
