Hi from Newbie

Hi to all ,i have been enjoying this forum ,especially the classic videos, this is where my interest lies.A big thank you for the vids as i have seen the odd snippet of my boat on them.
I should explain that i own HORATIA a Nelson 40.Not really a race boat but was in the first round britain race.I have spent the last five years getting her back in the water.Horatia was Cmdr Peter Thornycrofts boat,he was the designer of the Nelson boats. The boat was thought lost untill Vospers sold up and she came to light. She has twin CAT D366 400hp engines they are the originals,V8 quad cam,4 valves per cyl, turbo and aftercooled so very advanced for the day.I have replaced pistons and liners in situ great fun/not.
There were three boats of Peters in the first Round Britain all had same engines, these engines were being fitted to Gunboats for the Abu Dhabi defence force, and one was entered at 56 ft the largest boat in the race.it came 17th overall.Horatia came 16th.Grand Espior another 40 came 13th.
I have had the pleasure of helping Chris with Gee the boat the came first in 2008 Round Britain Historic class. We have also had fun as Safety boat etc at various events, but like all these highly strung vessels its been a roller coaster ride as lots of time spent rebuilding followed by some great rough weather
rides followed by bugger its broke again.Lost count of how many times we have had prop repairs and replacement. Not fast by todays standards but 30knts at 12 tons aint bad for an old girl. She has been in the Solent so you may of seen us.She has to go into storage because of the present financial probs we all find ourselves in at the moment which is a shame.Cheers CW.

Horatia was based at Merlin Quay for a while in the early 00's, when owned by Andy. He had the motors out and did a fair bit of work on it back then.

You wouldn't want one of them engines falling on ya toe, that's for sure.
