newbie here with a 46' Cougar
Hi everybody
Been looking for an English site for some time and finally found it through Speedwake.com.
I bought this 1988 46 US1 Cougar this year.
Anybody here have any contact info of the bulder? I found the website for them, but they never answer my emails.
What I would really like to get now are a couple of extra cabin keys. Here in the states, these church key type keys are made with a different barrel od. I've been told I need to buy them from England. Like I know somebody in England! Hoping one of you can help.
The key has "Crescent W" on one side, and Made in England" on the other, with what looks to be a hand stamped number "33" below the "Made in England"
Check out the pics of my boat at
www.putfile.com/waybomb
When you click "nice noise", make sure your PC is hooked up to a loud stereo so you can hear it like it is!

Waybomb, welcome to boatmad! nice boat!
any chance you could take a close up pic (macro) of your required key, and i'll do some research here for you. (and maybe a few measurments, shaft dia etc)
What does the US1 go like with triple 575s? close to the ton?

I've seen your boat over on Speedwake. Very very nice.
If anyone can help with your key, Jon can.

The engines are 750 horsepower each (572 World blocks, BDS blowers). Do you guys use horsepower numbers or some other measure?
I'm afraid I do not know what "close to a ton" means???
How fast does it go? I've been clocked at 104 mph. I have no idea how many kilometers per hour that is. I just bought the boat in July. I'm pulling all three engines to freshen them up. While out, I am going to clean up the bilge and repaint it.
Jon - I don't have a micrometer here at the house. I'll measure it up at the shop tomorrow and post dimensions tomorrow night.

Hi Jon
I drew the key out in milimeters and scanned it. Hope you can read and understand my terrible mechanical drawing skills.
If I could get my hands on a couple of blanks, I am sure I could grind the blanks out to match this key.
If you can't read it, send your email to waybomb@i2k.com, and I'll send the original full size file

The outer drives are SSM 4 and the middle drive is a SSM 3a, three blade ss cleavers. Takes a while to get on plane, but after that, the throttle response and acceleration are incredible.

Hi Jon
Could you send the scans to my email?
Does anybody else have any literature on the Cougar?
EDIT - Jon, I was able to save the pics right off of this page; no need to send the files!

Where is the media gallery - I need to watch some boats running. I have no idea what your weather is like over there, but here it is below freezing and there's this white stuff all over the place. Yuk. I need summer!

Keys
Here ya go Fred.
There's loads'a meat on the 'blade' of the key for customising to your needs, only thing that's not so good, the overall length is longer I think than the original, but it's all they had in that shaft size.
Also, the length of shaft from collar to tip is 28mm instead of 22.5, so will need shortening, but the locksmith, (or you) should have no trouble with that.
