Newbie Hi
I was recently told of this place by Cyco, on a car forum, so here I am joined up
I've never had a boat before, but plan to get one pretty soon, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking at something around 17' - 18' and have landed on the Fletcher Arrowstreak 17 GTS as my fave. Budget is probably upto about £6000, so anything around that type/price really. It's just gonna be used for fun for me and my family on weekends, in the sea.
Nice looking site, and I'll carry on having a good look round.
Cheers
Guy (Gmac)

Hi Guy,
Welcome aboard. As you may have noticed this is a Phantom only website, Rings are tolerated as are Extremes.
Cheers

That would be great, thanks.
BTW, it's no good trying to baffle me with 'intermake' rivalry either. All I know at the moment, is the pointier they look, the faster they generally are

To be honest you are best off with a Phantom or Ring, Both good boats and shed loads of advice on here in their regard.....
Have fun and enjoy the site but most of all enjoy your boating

Thanks for the advice, and I was looking at getting a bigger boat, but where the boat is to be kept/launched there is a steep, restrictive slipway, and the max I can go is 17,6' inboard, or 18.0' outboard
Can't change that I'm afraid, so gotta stick with the 17' - 18' range

Lots of folks here are recommending Phantoms & yes, they will be faster (esp in the rough) but you mentioned 'family' boating & I think you're right to be looking at something like a Fletcher or Picton. These boats are beamier than a Phantom or Ring, giving you a lot more room inside but still plenty of fun & easily seaworthy enough for recreational boating. 17" Fletcher GTO/GTS or Picton Royale would be ideal.
This forum is essentially for more performance related boating hence the Phantom etc recommendations.

Welcome
Gmac welcome mate.
Stick with the Fletcher sytle of boat for the moment, don't get tempted by the Phantom or Ring 18 they are both far to small inside for what you intend to use them for.
As Jon Fuller mentioned Chaos on here has a Fletcher for sale it may be worth sending him a PM.
Did you recieve any e-mails about the Sea ray I mentioned?
Cheers

Yeah got them thanks Cy, and I think I asked for some pics, but tbh I think a 1991 is a bit older than I want.
Also, I went to view the place on Tuesday, and I won't be going there, so now the size of boat can be upto about 20'
Why did you say to steer clear of Bayliner ? I have heard some fairly postive comments on later boats, and they seem like value for money. Is there a reason for that, like they're pants ? !!
Cheers

Bayliner is their "Official" Name BinLiner is their actual name, Crap quality of build for an American boat, Saw one in bits just off Lake Havasu last year and the guy who owned it said it just "Fell Apart" Mind you he had taken the inboard engine out and mounted 3 Promax's on the back 900 hp on a 22 foot boat madness - but he had a cracking looking trophy wife

In my opinion, Fletcher will suit much better to you as a phantom or ring.
Phantom and ring are more race boats. If you want a good hull with superb sea-keeping performance you should look at a fletcher Arrowshaft 199, maybe to old ( last model was built in 1990 ) but its a very good Family Boat, 6 people can sit in comfort.
The hull deadrise is 24 degrees deep v.
this is the boat in baltic sea.
By the way: it goes 82.4 GPS kmH with a 20" Laser2 Propeller @ 5600 RPM with a stock 115 V4 Yammi , without jackplate. ( just install this outboard to another boat wit 19.7ft length and we will see how is really faster )
