That is quite correct you can also do it without the RYA. Though difficult but possible.

Would like to have come down but Midas wont be ready, got more setbacks on the rigging & more bits to source from the US

Due to an unfortunate incident in Dallas, I have to go sort out an issue there right now. I will be out of the country for 24 hours, and unable to put up the race-instructions or entry form till Wednesday. *IF* there is a longer delay, I will get them posted up on the internet by someone else.

They will be up by Thursday morning no matter what.

having never done this type of event before and the fact that my navigator (even tho they dont know it, thanks for volunteering Simon/Dan . . . ) is happy to find the way to the bar, round an island might be a bit more difficult. Not so much getting round but whats underneath worries me. We would also need to sort out extra fuel as tank is only 120 litres. How many miles round the island is it approximatley?

Guess its down to me and Simon to fight it out who dont want to go in the boat then!!!
All joking aside I dont mind, I'm as capable as the nest person in sitting there holiding on for life with my eyes shut, so you can count me in if your stuck! Or if Simons, already said yes then I will act as the support team, either way I'll make the trip!

Na, Chaos is ya man, he knows a 'special' route that shortens the course quite a bit.

OK, lets tell the two stories.

last week, I touched the shingle bottom leaving the Island Harbour marina lock at low tide, on tickover. just a few scratches on the tips of the blades, now polished out, and perfic.....

Tell us about your near miss (they do share the common factor that both events were hitting, or nearly hitting the Isle of Wight)

You'll be taking the same course next time then.
As it's now been proven you were right, don't go following the locals again, follow your instinct next time.
