I have been thinking about this for a long time now and have decided to go for the old 1.3 litre route with either a Yamaha or Tohatsu 90 for next year, as by the sounds of it I will have much more fun using a tried an tested method instead of mucking around with a new engine and all its hidden faults.

After spending the day with the OCR guys and going out in Sharon Atlee’s boat at the Allhallows racing taster day, I’ve realised that all I really want to do now is get out on the water in my boat and gain some experience. If 3B gets going it would be great to enter but if not I feel entering as many basics as I can in 2009 would be the best option for me.

Now where are all the Yamaha 90’s you’ve been talking about ? …

Damn right. I used to race sailing dinghies a lot, and it was great fun.
Took a sailing dinghy out on holiday - what a dull crap sport that is when you're not racing!

4). Any racing, at whatever speed, as long as it is close and competitive is fun, 3B used to offer that

The last time I was in EPS Marine in Hamble Point they had a couple sitting there, so it would be worth ringing David .

3B is a great class, I have raced it in grp and ally monos, kevlar and wooden cats.

I have raced with pennpromo in the slowest mono and beaten 99% of the class 3 fleet, and ran with Peter Wilson at 83 mph.

Great class!

3b 2009

So where did we get to in terms of potential entries for the 2009 season? Still possibly got the option of a boat and thinking about a few races, but as I am now starting to look like Tony D I probably need to shed a few KG !
Is it Yamy 90's or EPA ?

A bit of both i believe, we are going with the 90 and Matt (Stumpy) is supposedly going EPA, i also heard a rumor that there were 2 other possible boats for 3B but i have no idea who the others are or what they will be running ..... perhaps they could come out of hiding

Thumbs up

I think regulating the engines will be very easy. the diagnostic software will show up injector numbers, EMM numbers etc, these will be cross referenced with engine numbers as per engine homologation paper work and blue printing will be shown up in a good old fashion stripping of engines!
Good luck to you!
I must admit i am interested in this class.

We should have Evinrude doing that for all our ETECs this year, is it the same as 'plug and play'??

What a team that would be SWP & TD - rough water specialists!

Keep hearing of people being interested - hopefully some of it will lead to more boats being raced. I had a builder lined up to go into production of a new mono design - but not enough definite interest and in current climate...

If things take off I could certainly be interested in the future - have had a pretty radical concept I have wanted to develop for some time - and 3B woudl be the ideal class.

I am genuinely interested in this. i would however like to see racing on the saturday and sunday so i get value for money. i already have an engine for the new revised rule and am currently building a 20 foot boat. i will be posting more info on my little project soon. i did not want to be too hasty in posting about it untill i had finished the hull. if it had been a disaster i would have shelved the whole thing.

Now the cats out the bag lol!!
