3B Championships 2009
Very pleased to announce that there are 3 boats commited to racing 3B in 2009. With the backing and assistance of ORDA, we should be able to register for a RYA recognised championships in time for 2009.
3 Boats is great, but more are needed to make this a great series. An affordable and exciting class, 3B has launched many a career in the past. Your support is needed to re-establish this class in the UK.
So come on all you wannabe racers, come and join the party in 2009!!!

Good luck to all - 3B has always been one of those classes that should be good and deserves to be there - I think the new power increase might just help to make the new 3B a lively and interesting class.

Good luck
It is good to hear that 3B will be starting up again in Britain.
I myself race in the class in Norway and find it a lot of fun.We have actually had 1 new boat entering the races thru the season. the biggest start fleet in 3B this year was 14 boats, and there is aro 4-5 boats waiting to get out on the waters.
Please contact me if you need help getting a hold of a competetive boat, engines/tuning etc. I know of about 9 3b Boats(all extremly competitive) that owners will consider to sell.(they are not changing class, just uppgrading or trying something different).
I also have a contact in the states that can get 2008 Yamaha 90`s, and ship them very nicely.
Btw. You don`t need the newest boat to win...I myself have the oldest boat in the race fleet..., and I am in the run for the Norwegian Championship title with one race to go.... it is how you rig and race it :-)

I have spent aro 900 GBP, including parts. The person that does it is well recognised and his engines are very reliable. I also spent 800 GBP on the gearcase, it is latest of its kind..everything welded, and is superb.

Going to be interesting to see how the clean engines stack up against 'old' two strokes. UIM rules now allow 1760cc / upto 115hp for epa engines.
Not sure what is homolgated or about to be though.

Looks like another class that have'nt bothered to look into the implications or Engines that are available !! Are they 1760cc OR 115hp I would think at the moment it will be down to Yamaha F115, Tohatsu 115, Evinrude 115 (soon to be released as a 130) or 200 Merc without looking to deep so in theory the old 90's wont get a look in.

It is down as 1760 cc maximum epa engines - provided power is no more than 115hp. Subject to normal homologation.
Minimum weights go up a bit, additional 60kg for monos and cats
I actually think it could be a really good class - but again problems in the transfer over from old engines to the new. Lot of hp to give away if you are still running a 90 Yam!

What with that and the minimum Driver/Navigator weight of 170kg (we're only 115kg) gonna need a lot of ballast !!

90 HP

exactly.. 3B has always been 1.3litre has it not ? .. so why now make it 1760 ?
As an introductory class 60(ish) is probably quick enough isn't it ?

Class 3B has upgraded to 1760cc due to the lack of old 2 strokes. The Yamaha 90 is not sold in europe sins 2007 !
So to make the Class big again the UIM had to find a new engine that would be competitive in 3B.
And I think that the new engines may be the savior of the class.
The E-Tec 115 is homologated.
1760cc would be perfect for you in the UK. The Backdraft 22 is probably a great boat and allso Phantoms.
Twister in Finland is manufacturing great cats that would be perfect!
